What is the Voters Broadcasting Channel?
It’s a new way of watching the Election. On Election night, four concerned citizens will work together to create an online TV broadcast at the UStream Voters Broadcasting channel. Between now and then, we’ll post daily on this blog. For major events like debates and speeches, we’ll offer live coverage on Twitter, accessible from the main page of this blog.
What is the difference between Voters Broadcasting and a traditional TV network?
Let’s start with the obvious: Voters Broadcasting is four friends working together to create a TV broadcast from an apartment. We don’t have a TV studio, and we don’t have any kind of special access to the candidates. This is entirely do-it-yourself. But aren’t you tired of watching TV coverage, where “experts” chatter about meaningless trivia and push their opinions as fact? Voters Broadcasting is from the ultimate expert – the American voter. We are broadcasting of the voters, by the voters, and for the voters.
What’s the slant?
We are all moderate to progressive Democrats who will be voting for Obama, unless he begins supporting nuclear testing on baby seals or something similar. But we promise to be scrupulously honest in presenting the facts, and to strive to present the story honestly. We’re imagining it as if we’re calling the World Series – you always knew Harry Caray was a Cubs fan, but you knew he wouldn’t tell you they hit a home run when they struck out. So, whatever your political ideas, enjoy the show!
What is our vision for the future?
Quite simply: To get other people to think about the election from the only perspective that matters: their own, as an American voter. (Or for international readers, an observer of an American election.) Our dream is that by Election Day, there will be 20 similar sites – maybe there are already – and by Election Day 2012, there will be 1,000.
Stay tuned from now until Election Day – it will be a wild ride!
